Type Locality and Naming

Named after the Shakhsay, right tributary of the Dzhilandy River, Zeravshan-Gissar mountain region. E.G. Fedorov et al., 1992. Stratotype on the right bank of the Shakhsay.

Synonym: Shakhsay Series,


Lithology and Thickness

Meat-red claystone (argillites) with layers of thin-bedded jasper-like cherts and lenticular interlayers of limestones Thickness 60m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Overlies conformably the Akbasay Fm

Upper contact

Overlain transgressively by the Dzhilandy series (= Dzhilandin Fm, see Zirabulak-Ziaetdin region - Ziaedin mountains -- -- BUT, Dzhilandin base "Arbitrary base Pragian? - "Lower Devonian?" => can't be the unit above.).

Regional extent

Zeravshan-Gissar mountain region, has local distribution.
